now let's give it up big for this guy cuz he is a champion ladies and Gentlemen let's hear it for Jake Cutler is a hotest new Pro to come on the scene in the last couple of years there was one thing one goal in my whole life since I was 12 and that was to be the best bodybuilder in the planet it takes a lot of time but I'm dedicated and uh I honestly gave up my whole life to bodying I lived in a [ __ ] box in order to be the best come on
come on come on the second place finisher Jay Cutler I'm going to win this Olympia eventually if I don't want toight Jay Cutler can you beat Ronnie tonight of course Jay Cutler if you want to be the man you got to beat the man I'm going to take home home my first Sandow trophy 2006 Mr Olympia Jay Cutler first man to win it lose it and win it again you know they said uh the champion be taken out well you know what the new champs in town everybody loves the story of an underdog we relate
to them we see ourselves in them and we feel their struggle in bodybuilding Underdog stories almost never conclude with the happy ending we hope for perhaps all but one despite turning pro quickly bodybuilding Glory didn't come to Jay Cutler overnight before becoming a four-time Mr Olympia Jay had been chasing the best bodybuilder on the planet but to no avail coming so close to the title just for it to slip from his grasp year after year in True Underdog fashion Jay finally dethroned the reigning champ in a rare incident where the underdog prevails all just to
lose the title again 2 years later in the most heartbreaking moment of his career but what came next was an attempt to do what no champion before him had ever done an attempt to make the biggest comeback in bodybuilding history this is the rise fall and Rise of the comeback King like from the very beginning I mean have pictures when I was flexing when I was 4 years old 6 years old 8 years old reason being I grew up on a farm back in central Massachusetts I developed a pretty solid physique from working I started
working at the age of 11 we actually had a concrete business my parents were separated when I was really young and my brothers used to drag me to work like I would work after school school vacations you know weekends anytime I had free time sometimes before school we worked around the clock and that's really what kind of started the early days of the mentality of like having that commitment to something and then of course the ruggedness of doing concrete carrying concrete forms I developed a crazy physique into my teenage years you know I was 11
12 13 I was always like the most muscular kid I used to watch these kids on vacations go on their trips and and whatever else and then their weekends they'd have to just do whatever they did and I was just jealous why do I have to work I used to pray every morning to please get me through this day because I hated it so much and I knew it wasn't what I wanted to do my whole life I actually didn't start training until I was 18 years old but in high school I played football I
was just really limited what I could do for sports the track team wanted me really bad but I couldn't participate in a lot of the weekend events because I was working after school weekends and school vacations in the concrete business I was the youngest of seven kids and I was always inspired by like Superman Batman and you know Captain America those kind of things I was always intrigued by the muscle I would probably say the the first influence I was 12 and my sister's boyfriend had a bodybuilding book and it featured the 82 Olympia Chris
Dickerson won that and I remember seeing this physique and I was like man this is unbelievable and that's when I said I want to look like this one of my friends when I was 15 took me to Gold's Gym and we worked out and he was super into bodybuilding and I think that I kind of was like wow it's amazing what you can do getting under these weights and I I made a commitment that when I graduated high school I was going to join the gym and start my journey towards lifting weights and developing a
better body I decided 18 I was pursuing a degree in criminal justice I was going to college and I stopped working the concrete so I'm like you know what I'm going to dedicate myself to the gym I joined the gym my 18th birthday I saved at $300 and I put a membership down at Gold's Gym in Worcester Massachusetts and that's when I started my quest in bodybuilding although I didn't know anything about lifting weights I kind of sat and watched and learned I tried to get a lot of people to help me but no one
would really give me the attention cuz I was just a young kid that you know had a decent physique but no one really wanted to give me the advice when I joined that gym and I was there from 8: to 10 at night all those stresses of like the family the school what I was going to do in life went away while I was lost in that weight training it was the combination of doing concrete 11 to 18 where I was just working nonstop it really tore my body down I hate did my dad and
my brothers cuzz I remember them dragging me out of bed I mean I would be like hung over and they'd be like you have to get up and go to work at 6:00 and I'm like I just got in an hour ago so when I actually started going to college and I would be in class and I'd have more time to rest and then I started eating the food cuz I didn't have any kind of nutrition program at all when I was in high school my body exploded I put on 50 lbs like the first
6 months of training so I knew I had something different but I was also a beast and I benched 3:15 in high school like without even really lifting weights and I made improvements so quick someone coached me into competing a show and the first time I got on stage I was that I was hooked and I play second at my first show right then I started getting like a lot of attention from the outer outskirts of Wester Massachusetts and next thing you know this guy l a wick who ran American muscle magazine in California started
calling the gym because the word got out that there was this upand cominging young kid and for some some reason he called Chris AO who was about 2 hours away who's a very well-known nutritionist in our business and he said hey I want you to take take a look at this young kid he's in Worcester he came down and took a look at me he called Lou and he said the kid looks pretty good you know whatever and he kind of wrote me out a diet plan and I followed that for six months and for
some reason Chris came back through six months later L said hey go to this gu's making good progress and Chris CTO came back through and he called l a wick and he said holy [ __ ] this kid's going to be Mr Olympia and we're speaking backstage here with Team competitor in the heavyweight division Jay Cutler Jay it's very nice to have you in the contest today I want you know I graduated college and I went to the E Nationals around the time I was graduating I actually skipped my graduation to go compete in the
Nationals yes wow that's the best teenager in the country I did te National against Branch Warren lost the overall to him but won the heavyweights and that was like the time where I said I want to be a professional bodybuilder and from that forward I was like he I have something after the teen Nationals Jay pursued bodybuilding with an obsessive passion in August 1995 he went to compete in the NPC Tournament of Champions he had just turned 22 and he made the cross country track for the California contest because in that pre-internet era when the
weer muscle magazine ruled he knew he could generate much more publicity with an amateur win in the epicenter of bodybuilding than he could back east and he was right next up representing Gold's Gym in vicilia here is Jay Cutler when he took the contest's overall title at 241 lb he looked like the f future the Hallmarks of his physique were already established something about Massachusetts seems to grow Giants we've had monzo Deo and now Jay Cutler the audience was even more impressed with Jay when they learned he's only 22 years old the ultra wide shoulders
the monster truck wheels and the surplus of muscle everywhere next year at 23 Jay stepped up on stage at the 1996 Nationals where he once again revealed a physique that had made Quantum leaps a lot of anticipation for this man Jay Cutler from Wester Massachusetts his first time at the Nationals it's hard to believe is his first time at the Nationals I mean he has a complete phit the shape he's in excellent condition at 247 lb his upper body had at last caught up to the high standards of his lower half and he defeated six
future Pros in winning the heavyweight class taking his Pro card on his first attempt and just like that the promising amateur had become a professional bodybuilder at just 23 years old when he won the Nationals in 1996 I said Jay congratulations enjoy it you're a blocky white guy you're you're not going to do that well in the Pro ranks he says I know I'm a blocky white guy Jay came to professional bodybuilding at a time when the sport was dominated by Dorian Yates Who won six consecutive Mr Olympia titles from 1992 to 1997 when he
retired after 1997 an opportunity opened up for for a new star to emerge at the time many believed that Flex wheeler would take up the mantle instead the surprise winner Ronnie Coleman took the sport by storm in 1998 in the same year Jay would make his Pro debut at the ifbb Night of Champions placing 12th while Ronnie Coleman went on to win the show the gap between the two men was large but in time Jay would posture himself not just as a credible Challenger but also as a threat to the King's throne coming from a
guy that won almost every show I ever did but then competing it was a whole Next Level getting to the pros I was kind of like wow you know it's it's a big eye opener for me so when I started competing against the guys that I idolized in the magazines I realized okay I need to step my game up so after 1998 was that Night of Champions I finished 11th I said I'm going to go back to training I built a home gym I built a crazy home gym I spent like 100 Grand on equipment
and I was training in my house and I came back and I finished uh third at the pro Iron Man and fourth at Arnold Classic Arnold Classic being the second biggest show this fourth place finish at the Arnold Classic proved he wasn't just hype besting guys like Milo sarv Vince Taylor gter schamp and Dexter Jackson hinted at just how high he could go with more polish so I kind of got in the mix a little bit there won some prize money and I was qualified for the M Olympia which was was obviously huge then I
mean I was one of those guys that like man if I could just get on Olympia stage my goal at the Olympia this year was to basically duplicate or or or better myself from the AOC classic Iron Man earlier in the year and I think I've done that 1999 your first Olympia you're walking on stage at 25 tell me how that felt man I thought I was going to stand next to Ronnie Coleman and challenge him I really did and when I stood in the back and I got last call out like it was only
one call and I was devastated I mean I went back to the hotel room at manderlay Bay and I remember Chris in the room and you know my ex-wife Terry and we were like am I good enough so we got over that and I said you know what forget it I had moved to California right after that uh Joe weeder actually who brought Schwarzenegger moved me out to California kind of said why I want you close to the magazines why don't you come out here you can make more money so I moved to Orange County
at the beginning of the new millennium Jay's future was cloudy would he forever remain unfulfilled potential the sort of almost contender who can squeeze into the occasional Olympia pose down and Triumph in lesser Pro shows but never VI for a Sandow or would he Eclipse previous plateaus and Reach For The Summit in 2000 Jay won the Night of Champions the very show he had flopped in two years ago I just I went right back to it and I beat people like Paul delette Marcus rule Lee Priest was in that show it's my first pro win
you know that was like huge for me Ronnie Coleman called me after prejudging and wished me congratulations and at the time he was already Mr Olympia and he called me and said congratulations I said well the night show hasn't happened yet I haven't won he's like no you won you won then he was eighth in that Year's Mr Olympia a mildly disappointing finish behind two competitors he had bested at the Night of Champions After the Olympia Jay racked up his first two of 25 consecutive top two finishes when he was runner up to Ronnie in
a pair of Euro tour contests where the lineups were weak as Ronnie was the only member of the Olympia POS down to comp so I actually got to stand side by side in 2000 so that's why I I had the confidence a little more going into 01 also and I remember chriso saying that after we finished that tour and I finished those second place finishes he said Jay you're going to beat this guy he said another year you can beat Ronnie Coleman and that moment marked the beginning of the greatest rivalry in bodybuilding history Ronnie
thank you very much for competing and not going with the advis that some people gave you another compete the three-time Mr Olympia started 2001 by winning the Arnold Classic where he showcased what many believe was his best ever physique marking the only time a reigning Mr Olympia had won the show however participating in this contest turned out to be a big mistake one that nearly cost him the Olympia this year peaking for the Arnold and then having to Peak again for the Olympia took its toll on Ronnie you did the Arnold in March and one
yeah and some people arguably say that might have been your best look and I found out the Hardway that the body only Peaks once a year that Ronnie did the Arnold in 2001 and then he came in and he did the Olympia and obviously it's really tough to double Peak that's why as a stand a big body yes especially a big body so we literally have you know we have a basically a rebound phase where we get the weight up go right back into prep again we get done with the Arnold we basically do the
exact same thing and go back into the Olympia prep again so it was like Prep Prep Prep and and eventually by the time we got to the Olympia that year the body was just fighting everything placing eighth the previous year Jay was considered by many to be yet another blocky Behemoth that would at best eventually work his way into the Olympia top six but not challenge for the title however he was about to prove everyone wrong Jay set out all of 2001 until the ultimate contest and came in at only 5 lb lighter than Ronnie's
265 and 2 in shorter with enough Mass and confidence to not only hang with the champ but also be the greatest threat Ronnie has faced so far I wasn't ready to beat him yet but what I did is you know Chris said listen take the full year in 2001 mhm and I want you to train and I want you to eat and I want you to eat not on that strict strict diet I want you to have your Burgers and Fries which I did every single day I'm not going to lie that of the Olympia
we got to get to work and literally I went back to work I trained you know I was doing twice a day workouts then I would do two body parts a day large body part in the morning and a smaller one in the afternoon I was more the more dedicated guy than anyone I believe at that time cuz I would eat my six seven meals a day I didn't do anything social I would eat sleep and train like I was on a like a Time [Music] Clock the 2001 Mr Olympia was staged at the Mandalay
Bay Event Center in Las Vegas just over 6 weeks after the events of 9/11 security and patriotism were heightened all access was more restricted and an unlike previous years police officers were on guard backstage in the center Ron Coleman on one side Kevin LaRon on the other side Jay Cutler from the first comparison of prejudging with Ronnie Coleman Jay Cutler and Kevin levrone it was clear the three-time champ was at his work his midsection was bloated and smooth he was some 30 lb heavier than the 247 he was when he dominated the Arnold Classic just
7 months earlier and at the Olympia many of those pounds seemed to be water so we were basically on point with everything and we had already kind of started manipulating water the only thing that we didn't anticipate was that Ronnie was going to get a phone call at 5:30 in the morning to go run around to all these radio shows yeah to do all these damn like appearances again like he's just being traveled around in you know in the in the desert it's hot it's like all this stuff going on um he's had one meal
we're already a little bit dehydrated and so we get back and I can tell like he lays down on the bed like he's out I was in Ronnie's room when all of that [ __ ] went down he passed out he had passed out I I didn't honestly think that he was going to even be able to make the show cuz at that time the show wasn't two days it was one day it was a prejudging in the morning and then it was the finals at night and they finally got a whole Chad Chad came
over and said drink water and then he drank um a entire gallon of water like he drank a shot glass like he drank the whole thing and obviously he was holding water Ronnie was better from the rear than the front his glutes and hamstrings were striated though his back was a little blurry but Jay had the edge Jay also weighed a bit too much he could have been more crisp and he suffered from cramping throughout the finals but his abs were markedly better than the Champs and his quads were zippered he dominated the ABS and
thigh pose but lost the rear lat spread he had the advantage in the front double biceps over Ronnie because of his Superior shape while the other poses were close calls you know I just had a lot of detail that I hadn't had before I was my shoulder width is always great but you know from the front I was pretty dominant in the ABS and the thighs and you know where he he I felt he was a little washed out after prejudging Jay was leading by six points Point he'd won both the muscularity and symmetry rounds
leading Ronnie by two rounds to zero this was all he needed to boost his confidence even further and it seemed that the Sandow would come much sooner than anticipated one year ago jakay Cutler was in eighth place 1999 he found himself not even making the top 15 of this contest and is now in the inconspicuous position of possibly winning the Mr Olympia for the first time in his 28 years on the planet Earth you don't think you're going to move from to winning the contest or even being in contention when you have so much respect
for the other athletes there that have been there so when I Leap Frog all those guys and they brought me and Ronnie out for the final call and prejudging the top two you know I was really really fired up and at that point my confidence was alltime high where I thought okay I have a great shot here but it all changed when Ronnie came in and completely transformed at the evening show he was sharper and his posing was much more outgoing and aggressive than Jay's and just like that Jay was stung by the reversal of
Fortune in a decision that is considered one of the most controversial ones in the contest history the second place finisher in the 2001 Olympia Jay Cutler furthering Jay's disappointment that night was the news that he had been disqualified due to a failed drug test for diuretics he disputed this claim even threatening to SU too eventually the test was ultimately rescinded Jay was even convinced that the show was fixed and Jay got mad he thought I fixed a show against him I said to him one time I'm a promoter I do this to make money who's
going to sell me more tickets a big white blonde guy or the big black guy come on on stage Jay might have lost to Ronnie but mentally it was a different story 2001 defeated Ronnie Coleman mentally there was always that Whispers of like you know where was close J C or maybe should have won right and I believe that I defeated him like that was like a punch to Ronnie mhm and he's he didn't know what to come in like in 2002 right and that's why he came in small he's like you know I'm just
going to go back down to 248 like I was when I won my first in 98 I'm going to be ripped this year's loss still left a bad taste in Jay's mouth which would lead to him to make a bad decision next year for the fourth year in a row as Jay Cutler has to wonder what he has to do to upset the champion just as he was denied the ultimate bodybuilding title in 2001 Jay denied fans the rematch they all anticipated the following year he sat out the 2002 Mr Olympia preferring instead to solely
focus on that Year's Arnold Classic which he ended up winning I still feel like old to Arnold was my best my biggest and hardest uh you think that was better than no one I just think the package was better it was very dominant but soon enough he'd come to regret that that decision as 2002 was arguably Ronnie Coleman's worst Olympia showing the 2002 Olympia saw Ronnie take home his fifth title beating Kevin lone and Chris Cormier the star of the show however was a reinvented Gunter Scher who finished fifth and was marked third best in
the evening finals as he brought the house down receiving that rarest of Olympia salutes a standing ovation hey guys uh just want to let you know you made my day that means more to me than the pling than you very much 3 weeks later the 290 lb German Juggernaut sensationally beat Ronnie at the GNC show of strength staged in New Orleans and became the people's Champion making it the first time a reigning Olympia Champion had been defeated outside of the M row since Arnold beat Sergio Aliva at the 1970 Mr world it was apparent that
the King was at his most vulnerable and everyone was starting to wonder what if I skipped 2002 I mean I was building a house in Vegas so I actually set out which is the Year Ronnie came in smaller after I pet him the ropes in 2001 if you ask me if it was close to any regret of my career that would be sitting out that contest but I just mentally couldn't prepare because of the move to Vegas Building the new house and kind of restructuring my life moving from California I just felt it wasn't suitable
to go into Olympia preparation so for me you know I do kind of regret that a little bit Leone fell into my second place slot but I would have came in there and probably beat up Ronnie pretty heavy now everybody was wondering if the king's Reign would come to an end but the following year the bodybuilding world was in for a shock after the so close win in 2001 and Ronnie's defeat in 2002 Jay was more confident than ever that 2003 would be his after the defeat in 2002 the king's Aura of invincibility seemed to
have popped meanwhile Jay status had grown he was the uncrowned champ he'd won three out of three shows including the Arnold in the spring of 2003 I I was confident I said I'm going to win the Mr Olympia I had already won everything that year I went won the Arnold W all the grand PR I won the Iron Man that year I was the biggest thing in bodybuilding at that point it was time for a change and everything was set for Jay's coronation in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas the big question before the show
was whether it was going to be Jay or Ronnie by the crowd's reaction they expected Gunter to walk away with the crown too I expected to win an 03 coming back i' had been on a hot streak I won the Arnold again gun was flying high he took the year off after beating at the show of strength thinking he was going to come Inn because it was like question mark okay we have three potential Big Winners right I never plan on being Mr Olympia it wasn't an ultimate goal and until I stood next to Ronnie
Coleman in 2001 on a very controversial second is when I first realized that holy [ __ ] I can win this thing the rest from there that mean the [ __ ] mindset of like getting up every day and pushing yourself till I felt like I was going to have a heart I mean there was times where I almost passed out training because I couldn't breathe and in Vegas the heat I remember doing walking lunges outside you know training for Olympia in August and I'm lunging with you know 225 on my back in the parking
lot and it's 120° on the on the pavement come on baby come on baby I used to train in the middle of the night cuz no one else was doing it okay no one else is doing this so I'm going to do it 2002 Ronnie you know obviously won it was questionable right and then Gunter beats him two weeks later or whatever at the GNC so either he rolled up and said you know what I'm just not getting better or he comes back and fights that's exactly what happened all3 so Ronnie got really pissed really
pissed you know Ronnie came and just swept the floor with us all and I'm like okay this time Med to show them that I'm for real have to be tough they are actually trying to really take this title from me time to show G how this supp be done so I got to do something different I got to train just a little bit harder and a little bit heavier yeah man I ain't messing around that's the heaviest and the hardest I've ever trained in my whole entire life that was super heavy and I went crazy
every single day woo he would be in the gym it didn't matter what time I remember there were times close to bite Ronnie's in the back corner of the gym nobody El he was just a machine man no one no one worked harder than that guy in the gym live from the manderlay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada it's Joe weers Mr Olympia contest 2003 there he is Mr Olympia Ronnie Coleman what do you think Chris oh it's just awesome awesome never seen him at this size with his hardness he's going to be
very tough to beat competitor number four Ronnie Ronnie returned to the Olympia in 2003 at an astonishing 287 lbs with a physique that completely changed the game and no one could stand next to him without being consumed in his cartoonish Shadow 03 is probably the combination that will never be touched of conditioning side nice fullness I used to take like 3 months off after the Olympia to get my body a break that year I didn't I didn't take no time off I went straight into the training right away was like right around in July he
was at his all-time biggest and hardest at that point like I remember it was like 3:25 or something like that and he was in Crazy shape for off season at that point when running dropped them clothes backstage everybody mouth dropped Jay Cutler everybody yeah I remember we were at the din dinner afterwards and I was like hey man you good and you looked at me and then you looked at him and then you just turned around you looked at me and you go what the [ __ ] was that the second place finisher in the
2003 Olympia Jake Cutler Jay Cutler back on the Olympia stage where he should be 2003 was a busy year for Jay not only did he compete in the Arnold and Olympia but he did six more shows which was an anomaly in nine of his other 15 Pro years he competed only once but in 2003 he did so eight times where he'd won five and was second in the other three one of those shows was the show of strength contest which hosted another major upset Jay went into the show as the overwhelming favorite what many fans
didn't expect was for the much smaller Dexter Jackson to show up in even better shape the blade got the nod over Cutler and took the overall win marking just the second victory of his career at that point it was a shocking loss but one that foreshadowed an even more devastating loss that nearly destroyed Jay's career but that was 5 years into the future for now Jay had bigger things to worry about Chris Cormier Jay Cutler is the Arnold Classic Champion for the third year in a row in 2004 Jay came in into the Arnold Classic
much lighter and sharper and eak out a controversial one-point Victory his shape the result of an unorthodox training eating and sleeping routine that had him doing all three at odd hours day and night was a conscious plan to as he said give the judges a different look it was an admission that he was growing too content with his annual victories in Columbus each March and he was wary of boring observers that was his final Arnold Classic had nothing left to prove by winning it a fourth time I welcome you to the annual joer Mr Olympia
weekend Ronnie's been here winning the show for the past uh how many years Ronnie six six years but this is my town my home this is tired bodybuilding talk basically he said he can whip Ronnie's ass Jay Cutler said you were 100% beatable I'm hot what do you say about that I say Jay Cutler smoking crack he ain't in his right mind let's stop talking Joe take it away let's go back out to the crowd ladies and gentlemen who is it going to be Ronnie Coleman Ronnie Coleman Mr olymp Olympia for the seventh straight year
by this time Jay was indisputably the planet's number two bodybuilder and with his consistent conditioning he seemed at little risk of slipping out of that position the problem was that number one was equally secure and too huge to lose however in 20 2005 Jay wasn't the only threat to Ronnie's Reign another Challenger had seemingly come out of nowhere to give both Ronnie and Jay a hard time at this year's Olympia the man to my right is one of the fastest rising stars in bodybuilding Gustavo badel moving from 24th in the 2002 Olympia to third in
the 2004 Olympia Gustavo Bell leaped a record 21 places and became the third best bodybuilder on the planet virtually overnight this year he went on to win the 2005 Iron Man Pro defeating Lee Priest and finishing third in the Arnold Classic behind only Dexter Jackson and Chris Cormier Gustavo sported a symmetrical physique with a wispy waist and crisp conditioning his side poses were especially strong he benefited from the contrast with Jay and Ronnie who were then in a size race and couldn't match the tight midsection and balanced proportions of the man who had the new
nickname the freaking ran he beat everyone in the challenge round which was judged by past Mr Olympia Champs who favored a more aesthetic physique to the rest of the mass monsters he would go on to take third that night however he proved that he was a force to be reckoned with and that he could compete with the best in the game first and second place as usual were reserve the two juggernauts a broader Cutler had narrowed the Gap taking points from the champ but it still wasn't enough and the award for second place goes to
J Cutler for the eighth time we had to sit there and watch 300 lb of Ronnie Coleman collaps in Victory and for the fourth time Jay you had to settle for second best I can't I'm a lost of words right now I don't have much to say cuz I don't agree with the decision and uh I don't know you know it's it's hard for me to swallow this one he was still only 32 but it was his eighth year in the pro league and by the time of the next Olympia he'd effectively spent 5 years
as the era parent it was plain to him that his time was running out he needed to win it all and soon by 2006 Jay's 4 seconds were torturous but they'd forged his reputation as one of us he was no longer merely a DNA anomaly a Phenom who could grow muscle at will we could relate to him now he was an oversized Everyman graciously accepting his runner-up check each Olympia before returning to the gym with a Vengeance striving to overcome a seemingly insurmountable obstacle who CER kid from Massachusetts came up lost the Olympia four times
never said anything bad went back to the gym just came back better and better his popularity as the underdog sword and people were rooting for him the words on everyone's lips this year were could Jay finally pull it off after four times in second place or would the new Challenger Victor Martinez who was climbing the Olympia ranks cause the biggest upset of all time whatever happened history would be made either Ronnie would make it a record nine wins eclipsing Lee Haney or he would be dethroned he was going for record nine so it was a
hard moment for him because he was ready to set history where I was ready to to set history by beating him you know he was The Undefeated like everyone said he will never lose and I knew that I was the one to to beat that to conquer him well I know one thing I don't want to be [Music] bald uh I said I'm going to shave my head bald if I lose this show you're going to get a chair on stage and literally shave your head no Bob cuz I'm winning this contest [Applause] [Music] this
contest tonight is going to be the contest that you will remember for the rest of your life tonight history will be made one way or another absolutely Sean for anybody that's seen the show yesterday knows we've got a dog fight on our hands I'm not going to set myself up for failure I'm going to sort myself up when I know I have it and this year after a good placing at the arm and and also at the momentum of last year's fifth place Olympia that gave me you know the mindset that I needed to say
you know what I can take Mr Olympia now heralded is a likely Contender and legitimate threat for the Olympia title in future years Victor Martinez has finally shown everyone what they might expect to be the future shape of men's professional bodybuilding looking to be considerably Superior in shape and size to previous outings Victor had many in the crowd expecting him to overtake both Ronnie and Jay despite his large size Victor demonstrated great symmetry in shape complete with some of the best legs and widest lats on stage despite his great showing he ended up in third
place leaving the two usual contenders to fight for the crown throughout the comparison poses between Jay and Ronnie it was clear that Ronnie would have a degree of difficulty defending his title quite simply Jay was at his all-time best in terms of both conditioning and quality size from the front he showed tremendous improvements in overall thickness along with a seemingly smaller waist from the rear he was sharper than Ronnie especially in the back and with his Superior calf development overall shape and conditioning it seemed like it was going to be Jay's night I told Jay
on the floor I said man listen you got to fight for this you gotta fight against Coleman you can't be slacking up you can't be pulling out of poses if he pulls out his pose you got to continue to hold your pose and let him realize that you know what I'm not going to chase you I'm the champ tonight and when you when he did that I think the judges was like whoa this dude right here is here to fight there can be only one joh history will be made tonight so in my mind I'm
I'm going to win it was like that until I think we would have on stay for the final hold down somebody pass word to me that and not going to win this right he knew you could just tell like you watch the video and he's just like looking down he's just kind of got he said to me you won you beat me someone told him backstage before the announcement yeah the next name you here will be the winner of the 2006 Mr Olympia if you look back and you see us kind of conversing before the
announcement and he said you know you won you won you beat me to the 2006 Mr Olympia Jay Cutler and then I made sure I raiseed Ronnie's hand like man I appreciate cuz he was my idol right if it wasn't Ronnie Coleman I never went as great as I was because he pushed me and gave me something to achieve J the stage is yours Lo Vegas is yours and the Olympia is yours I've been coming here you know and getting second all these times and seemed like everyone told me you know you're wasting your time
you're not going to win and I persevered and I trained harder and and came back every year and came back stronger and here I am you know this was a day that no one thought they'd see they said uh the champ can't be taken out well you know what the new champs in town what made the 2006 incarnation of the Big O so rousing had as much to do with what it wasn't as what it was unlike a number of its predecessors it most definitely was not predictable when Jay was pronounced Victorious the crowd went
wild with a kind of excitement Genera by a decision that had not been experienced for a long time for the previous 8 years the last name announced at an Olympia had been Ronnie Coleman for 6 years prior it was Dorian Yates and for eight years before that Lee Haney was declared the winner for more than two decades fans had come to expect that once a Mr Olympia was crowned he could not be uncrowned yet the torch was passed after 7 years and four heartbreaking seconds Jay finally joined bodybuilding's most exclusive Club but the moment he
did he began viewing his future Legacy in a new light the old pressure was gone and a new one took its place could he keep going could he shut the haers up by doing it again when everyone was gunning for him could he leave the one and- out club and launch the Cutler Dynasty we all know what's going to happen in 2007 so what is going to happen in 2007 I'm going to take home number two of course really happy and proud to welcome you to the annual Jo weers Mr Olympia competition tell you what
we got a competition on our hands how many people here think Jay Cutler will once again win the [Applause] Olympia Jay came into 2007 as the favorite and deservedly so with a lean offseason body weight that hovered between 290 and 300 lb he cons instantly appeared to be within Striking Distance of another title All Year Ronnie however looked worn you could clearly see the Jim battles he'd lost and how his left Latin triceps were diminished by trauma he was a shadow of his former self however his Legions of fans hoped he could go out on
top at age 43 after a third place last year Victor Martinez seemed set to cause an upset this year good to be one of your predecessors man I Champion yeah right here now it's on a big one to battle it out right yeah I come for you the Dominican Dominator possessed plenty of V gifts from his size to his shape and most importantly his conditioning which had often been his undoing in the past the top four were the same as last year Jay Ronnie Victor and Dexter but it was evident that they won't finish in
the same order this time Victor showed up on the first day of the contest with a package worthy of an Olympia Crown while Jay came out flat Jay's magnitude eclipsed the others in the rear lat spread but Victor's crisper conditioning and Superior lines one out in the back double biceps inide shots Victor had the best leg delineations but from the front he still lacked deep quad separation his legs were somewhat undersized compared to the wide vshape of his upper body Jay didn't need more legs but his muscles were neither as full nor as separated as
the previous year his front and rear bicep shots were nearly devoid of details Jay suffered from an infection and was sick by the time he stepped on stage for prejudging he was only 260 lb by game day about 15 less than the year before I did have a shoulder infection that that did affect me a lot and it wasn't the best look for me and obviously that was the hardest Olympia I've ever faced in my life how soon during prejudging did you realize hey I'm in the run here I felt like I was in the
run when when on Thursday night when one of Jay's good friends came from his house you know he came into my room and said can I come see you you know he looks at me he goes oh my God can't believe you so dry already jakay Cannot drop water at the end of the first day of prejudging the reigning champ was ahead of Victor by just two points but after the posing round it was down to just one people sensed an upset but but as the evening continued Jay's bloating disappeared and he appeared to get
even larger in stature Ronnie was announced fourth when 10,000 men women and children stood in unison to give him a rousing Ovation and Dexter Jackson placed third in the Olympia for the second time leaving Jay in a tough spot against his new Challenger of the7 Mr Olympia take [Music] cover Victor felt the agonizing St of being the runner up just like Jay did four times before so close as four points separated them in the end yet so far away Jay's reain was safe for another year by what some might call a stroke of luck but
next year his luck was about to run out Jay was it harder the second time around yeah after last night yeah it was you know Victor stepped up pretty tough and uh I knew uh my condition wasn't spot on I had a couple Miss calculations uh last night and I think um you know I would improved a little bit for tonight to be able to pull off the win it was probably the worst Mr Olympia of my life because so many people thought he should have won but 2007 if I was a judge you would
be for so I thought okay no wait I'm going to come back I'm going to be better than ever Jay entered 2008 with High Hopes hopes that this will be the victory that silences his critics all the Forum Warriors and internet snipers who fight fired at him relentlessly since he won at less than his best last year the word before the contest was that Jay was in the best shape of his life perhaps even equaling his incredible 2001 condition some pictures have kind of filtered out there people saying Jay is the best he's been since
01 are you the best since 01 or even better I guess uh I'll figure that out tomorrow night come on Jay who screwing around I look okay after his great performance last year and becoming the people's champ everyone was eager to see Victor Martinez take another shot at the title this year unfortunately this wasn't the case 6 weeks before defending his Arnold Classic title he slipped in the street and ruptured the patella tendon in his left knee he'd felt a slight twinge in that joint the day before while doing lunches but brushed it aside it
was a serious and career-threatening injury one that prevented him from participating in the Arnold Classic and the Olympia this year and just like that the 2008 Sandow slipped from his grasp and the title was open for the multitude of hungry competitors who wanted to Dethrone the champ at his [Music] lowest being absent from the Olympia stage after qualifying in each of his first two years as a pro Phil Heath was finally on the verge of making his debut by all accounts it promised to be a successful one after losing a very close decision to Dexter
Jackson at this year's Arnold Classic Phil came to the Olympia even bigger and better many pre-contest predictions had him slated for fourth but his goal is to match the likes of Lee Haney Dorian Yates Kevin levrone and flex wheeler and make the top three bodybuilding's highest sanctum on his initial attempt after winning his third Arnold Classic title this year Dexter Jackson was in his best shape ever and the Improvement he displayed after years of consistently good and sometimes Great Performances elevated him to a new level and marked him as a legitimate threat to challenge the
champ beginning with the 2002 Olympia Dexter was either third or fourth whenever he stood on the big stage people got so used to seeing him in the same heeled condition and yet always a subplot as Jay and Ronnie battled for the crown that it grew difficult to picture him as even the runner up let alone the Victor I feel that if I'm ever going to win Olympia will be this year if Jay comes in looking the way he has a l however the one man Jay was truly afraid of was someone else entirely we've also
got the big bad wolf in the house despite what his previous placing said many felt that Dennis wolf matched the champ in magnitude and bested him in configuration the year before when he surprised Everybody by placing Fifth and quickly becoming the fan favorite of the contest and with additional pounds in the right place 2008 could finally be be the year of the wolf so what's up with that you were running away from Dennis wolf was he in the show last year the 29-year-old didn't skip the Arnold Classic to merely move up a spot or two
at the Olympia he hoped to travel back to Germany with a Sandow eventually the last four to stand on the stage were Dennis Phil Dexter and Jay with his incredibly wide shoulder structure and narrow waistline Dennis clearly had the potential to dominate the sport coming in at 6'1 he towered over most of the lineup and everyone was anxious to see if wolf could pull an upset by winning the title this year unfortunately he didn't create the kind of excitement that he did the year before coming in Forth Place Phil Heath took his physique to the
next level that night and established himself as the best of the New Breed he presented a massive and ripped physique that showcased Superior arms and delts his posing presentation was aggressive and Polished he even showed signs of Ronnie Coleman as he pushed back Dexter on stage during the POS down and wouldn't allow him to stand next to Jay and himself the 28-year-old finished third the highest finish for an Olympia rookie since Flex wheeler placed second to Dorian Yates in 1993 and now the battle was on and Jay was in serious trouble Dexter had a physique
that was not only aesthetic and symmetrical but also massive and ripped his front double bicep pose was probably the best in the contest with his massive arms and wide shoulders tapering down to a tiny waist and massive separated thighs with his rock hard back stried glutes and deep ABS he was the most conditioned Athlete on stage something which was a contrast to Jay who wasn't the most aesthetic bodybuilder especially as his waistline has expanded dramatically as he continued to add size and and get bigger over the years his larger waist destroyed his Symmetry and lines
and earned him the unfortunate moniker the refrigerator Jay had previously promised to match the level he' reached at the Olympia in 2001 and by all accounts leading up to the show he was on track to match that performance but he took the stage at the Friday prejudging inexplicably flat in carrying enough water to leave the door open for someone to step in and steal his crown I actually like took my clothes off backstage and people around me are like damn he looks so good you know and I don't know what happened between the time I
took my clothes off to when I got on stage I don't know if it was nerves or I was eating some some rice leading up to that show and it was like from a restaurant and I have a feeling it was loaded with salt and of course you know we know how body reacts I think I was more flat and I got pumped up temporary fullness and then once I got on stage I was just deflated and watery and just looked like [ __ ] feeling the heat Jay took his preparation to a new level
shedding 10 lbs before taking the stage on Saturday night I died to bring in the night show condition from the prejudging I sat in a sauna like all day I was on my death bread pretty much dehydrated and uh I just said this is too hard and it looked like it was going to be enough to help him retain the title but Dexter's lead was just too much to overcome and the title of 2008 Mr Olympia you can take it too Dexter [Applause] Jackson the play Dexter Jackson has won the 2008 Mr Olympia Dexter Jackson
didn't win the Olympia I gave the title to him it all might have been true after all the rumors of his inability to dial it in for the Big Show or how he was gifted the win against Victor in 2007 twice now J had failed to Peak on the one night when a champion is expected to bring no less than his best when Ronnie stepped away he didn't come back in ' 08 I was kind of confused on how I wanted to bring my physique in because I had gone so big and now I was
looking at these little structured guys that were more ripped so was I need I needed to try to become more conditioned because my overwhelming size probably wouldn't win it for me I needed to be sharper so I actually had to lose a little bit of muscle in order to gather conditioning I just missed and I came in smaller and everyone wrote me off as like okay the guy is done because once you lose the Olympia no one's ever come back in history to win it I was embarrassed you know I was embarrassed that I only
held two t remember guy won prior to me won eight in a row the guy prior to him won six in a row and the guy prior to him won eight in a row here I won two and lost you know I was in a really dark place because I was once again questioning am I good enough I mean all the magazines and all the the you know behind the scenes people kind of like okay Jay's done I mean even Flex turned against me you know like they weren't confident I was going to come back
and I had a chip on my shoulder while that I mean I lost support of everyone you know when you talk about someone's downside and you know people not believing in you that I was the victim of that you know everyone gave up on me everyone's like Jay's never going to come back increasing the odds of him never regaining the top spot was the long list of former Mr Olympians who lost the Sandow and failed to win it back that covered with open criticism of his midsection and presentation made for a stack deck against Jay
in 2009 if he wanted the title this year he'd have to do what no other champion in history has ever done winning was a curse for me because I got satisfied very easily I was better at chasing it than than defending it Underdog worked better for me I worked with a nutritionist from the time I was 18 his name was Chris AO I worked with him all the way up up until I lost an' 08 and I knew that hey I need to make a change probably and I need a different opinion I switched to
a guy named h rambot i kind of uh revamped the kind of training I did to create more of an illusion more Fuller look I think you know we we had to chisle the physique down but at the same time balance that because I was so big for so long I needed a whole new training system and you know I was fortunate enough to get hooked up with the FST 7 program and of course H's training principles that allowed to kind of revamp my train and focus on something different that I've you know never done
over my the course of my bodybuilding career sit halfway there go sit come on I trained my ass off everything was structured I lived in a [ __ ] box in order to be the best meaning I had no outside people would call me with their problems I'd hang up on them and I just went at it preparation being the underdog again worst than ever like I had never been that much of an underdog when no one predicts me in the top five right you know I remember being in the hotel before I head to
prejudging and I remember fenz took a picture on her phone when she took the picture she goes holy [ __ ] and when she said that that's when I said I'm going to win the [Music] show 2009 is shaping up to be our biggest Olympia ever back to reclaim the title for a third time never been done before in the history of bodybuilding Jay Butler you know I've handled enough second place finishes to uh to uh want to go to therapy myself but this year's contest saw Jay's regular competition Victor Martinez made a return when
he finished second in this year's Arnold Classic setting himself for a pre- Olympia favorite in 2007 his combination of mass and Aesthetics was nearly strong enough for him to take the sandal but knee surgery kept him from competing last year and it's all too evident this time that his legs were lacking that in a scarcity of striations kept the 250 pounder out of the title hunt landing him a disappointing sixth place this year was a tough year coming back from the injury and also losing my beloved sister that helped me for every single one of
my shows helped me cook all my meals for my show and now uh she's not here to witness it and uh and like every year I always have dedicated to her the gift had spent an entire year altering his phys seek and trying to seize advantages many felt he deserved the Sandow last year when he tipped the scales at 227 lb so if he could come in 10 lb heavier with the same Stellar detailing he was confident he would not be denied however he suffered a stomach virus hours before Friday night's prejudging to the point
that EMTs were called in as a result he dropped about 8 lbs before taking the stage he managed to show up much Fuller and Tighter for the final but still couldn't finish higher than fifth a decision that generated a Cascade of booze making his Olympia debut this year was Kai green who'd won the Arnold Classic nearly 7even months prior with zippered quads vertical blind hamstrings and floor sweeping lats Kai's collection of parts at the Arnold was astounding though he brought the same collection of abstract Parts this time some of the fine Feathering was absent and
when he stood semi- relaxed at Center Stage his legs were so close together they seemed undersized at 257 lb Kai still impressed the crowd but not to the extent he did in the arnoldan March and ended up in fourth place expectations were much higher for the 2008 champ this time than last the year before he never truly believed he could win until he did but now he was confident he'd repeat his upper body looked slightly bigger and he was a little sharper than last year some thought he showed ased his best shape ever an opinion
he himself echoed we'll put 21 Dexter next to each other what year would would win I think 2009 that's my year thank you for saying that you were full you were super shredded you were like 2008 but bigger so I don't care who won no I smoked everybody in that show apparently it wasn't enough to even land him a runner-up spot this year coming third to kaien Victor in this year's Arnold Classic was Branch Warren who'd won the most muscular award clearly this was Branch's best ever showing and a few in attendance would have complained
had he been awarded the top title in what has been touted for months as being the toughest Mr Olympia lineup in over a decade Branch wasn't supposed to have a chance but he shocked everyone and became a fan favorite at 248 lb and only 5' 7 he was bigger than ever with the same level of grainy hardness he displayed at the Arnold his back has gone from a liability to an asset over the 3 years between now and his previous Olympia in 2006 where he placed 12 his wheels were monster truck sized and tricked out
with elaborate horizontal pin striping his triceps and forearms lagged he could have benefited from more back and delt separation but the bulldozer abundance of density was simply overwhelming and what did you think when it came down to you and I and we were standing there called Dexter in third place and I'm like that might have be Mr Olympia and then I was like be Miss limpan I still ain't won the show yet how's this happen and then you've got Jay he wanted this one and he wanted it bad for a long time everybody has been
saying that he needed to bring back his 2001 look and this year he must have found that time machine he was supposed to hop into I already knew I was going to lose this [ __ ] you know in 09 because I got sick right and Jay was being super cool I went to go see him and he comes out the the [ __ ] room he it looked like his head shrunk yeah he was like this wide and I go back and I remember uh telling Hony I go don't even worry about me this
[ __ ] just won the show right now and he was like I know and I'm like dude congratulations Jay brought his best physique ever one that might have even surpassed 2001 he sported striated glutes in a tight lower back that coupled with his width and thickness shut the lights on the competition he sacrificed a bit of back Mass to excavate more cuts and with Superior size and crisp detail from every angle and the sickest front quads in the show one of the most iconic moments in Olympia history came about and I kind of looked
down and as I looked down it was never opposed that was that was this is the famous quad stom I just kind of was like when I put my head down my abs kind of flexed a little bit just to be able to hit the leg perban now and the rest of the crew locked that pitcher in and it's it's uh it's one of the most memorable bodybuilding pitches of all time yeah B stomp was born our new Mr Olympia J Cutler three time Mr Olympia Jay Cutler nobody in the history of bodybuilding has ever
come back from losing a title to regain it Jay you become that first man and put your name in the history books a lot of people in the industry wrote you off for pretty much this past year everyone wrote me off I got I got a few thousand people right here who not rate you off you know I train very very hard all year and uh I was able to to realize my my best potential I think now at 36 I still have some gas in the tank so I'm excited about what the future brings
for me Jay has risen to the top Echelon of bodybuilding yet again in An Occurrence that was the first in history and the question once again was will he last welcome bodybuilding fans from around the world to the 2010 Mr Olympia he is your three-time and raing Mr Olympia Jay Cutler going into the finals this year it looked like Jay had it all to lose and would have to pull off something special to take home his fourth Sando especially after raising the bar so high last year with his most convincing win ever speculation abounded that
the contest would come down to Jay and Phil with experts and fans alike being nearly equally divided as to who would Prevail you know am I ready to beat Jay I mean we'll have to wait and see because I feel confident that I can win the entire show not just Friday not just Saturday but both days I sat back after 09 Victory and I sat with my team and I had a great team that year and I worked with h rambod and I said should I just stop now because I don't think we're going to
be better this than this and he 100% agreed with me it was going to be very very tough to be able to start to repeat that look of 2009 how many people have ever gone to their Peak and then their next year gotten better than that this year's contest saw a slight change in placings to last year's Victor Martinez came in just as good if not better than 2007 but his best was just not good enough for the judges to reward him with a place in the top six he ended up in eighth place accompanied
by the loudest booze of the evening Seventh Place went to Kai green who was noticeably off from his best condition especially when he won the Arnold Classic earlier this year he seemed to lose control of his midsection and his lack of conditioning made many contend he should have switched places with Victor rounding out the top six was the contest Dark Horse Germany's Ronnie Raquel who came in with a much improved back that could finally stand the heat of competition on the big stage and his compact physique was one of the most balanced and symmetrical on
stage and what has to be considered a victory of sorts Dennis wolf who was written off by most after a dismal performance in 2009 where he failed to place and a lackluster showing in NYC Rose to fifth place this year the former champ showed one of his best physiques this year one that some consider to be his very best including 2008 and when he won three Arnolds there isn't much Dexter could have done to improve his calves were his weak spot and he has done just about all he could there the difference between him and
the top three guys was immeasurable and maybe on a different day with different judges the blade could have placed higher than fourth in the past Branch's physique has been described as rugged Mass grainy and insanely muscular this year however the word symmetry was thrown in to describe the three time most muscular Award winner his waist has become more streamlined and his condition has even improved from last year yet he fell one placing from his second place spot of last year fighting tooth and nail for the crown was the gift who came in conditioned from head
to toe the detail that he had had not been seen on an Olympia stage in some time nobody in the contest could compete against his back double biceps in the side and chest triceps he stood out and he no longer suffered from being outmuscled his added quality Mass allowed him to stand there with the best in the business from the front his symmetry was just as impressive as he had a great sweep to his thighs his midsection was tight and streamlined which gave him a great x-frame look Jay was the fullest guy on the stage
although he wasn't exactly as good as last year by his own admission he was still great but as great as he was he wasn't that far ahead of the game his leg legs were huge and cut and he had some real deep striations and his midsection was tight and streamlined but he still had that boxy look that he was known for in the back double biceps he was big and thick but lacked detail however when he hit the rear lat sprad it was lights out the next name will be the winner of the 2010 Mr
Olympia Jay Cutler in the end Jay's Mass trumped Phil's classical lines and he proved to everyone once again that he wasn't just a fluke to be Mr Olympia not once twice three now four times I think that puts me in the record books uh from my dad who was 81 who flew out here surprised me uh yesterday I know he's out there watching I want to thank you I love you dad I love you for coming out from this moment onward it was clear that the champ wasn't going to be able to fend off his
hungry Challenger much longer does winning or losing Saturday nights make any difference in what your future decision might be meaning would you be more upt to hang him up if you lost or continue if you won I haven't thought about losing the gift informs me that he is in his all-time best shape will the student beat the teacher Las Vegas fans around the world are you ready four time Mr Olympia Jay Cutler Jay entered the stage to the thunderous Applause from his hometown crowd he was massive as always but it was soon apparent that Jay
was not as ripped or conditioned as he was last year his waist was noticeably wider and he appeared softer in the back he simply didn't have an answer for the gifs Arsenal that day and then 11 you it come in you say Hey I'm I'm going to do one more and I was starting to get a little bit like okay we don't want to get too long in the tooth and I and I felt like honestly like you were better than 2010 going into it I really do I think that I'm like okay this is
kind of like going into that 2009 direction again and then until the bicep tear and the when you got hurt I was doing a photo shoot basically what I did a million times I had dumbbells on my knees and I was kicking them up and when I kicked them up the bicep detached on the upper and it didn't hurt really just thought oh I it was like an electric shock and I just kept doing the photo shoot and I kept training the leading up and it slowly started to get black and blue and it was
actually detached I just went rolled with it I mean I was Mr limpy at the time and uh showed up on stage and of course you know by that time once I drained the water out and you know put the dye on the tan and everything and put some oil you could see that the bicep had rolled down there was a bump but it was detached and it was swollen so that didn't help besides Phil Heath was phenomenal that day during the comparisons it became obvious to everyone at the prejudging that Phil was going to
be the next Mr Olympia he had grown by Leaps and Bounds since winning his first two contests in his rookie year in 2006 Phil had jbeat in every pose and his crisp sharp muscularity eclipsed Jay's muscular size he showcased great proportions improved Vaper Stellar separation and 3D muscle that jumped to life with each pose Jay looked blocky next to him and there was no way that Phil would be denied the title this year in a mirror image of last year's final the pair were the last man standing the next name you hear will be the
2011 Mr Olympia you met a guy named Phil Heath and what did you think of Phil when you first met him you know I met Phil Heath at a show in Denver I was a guest poser I think it was around 2003 and I saw this kid with these crazy arms and you know he had just come off playing division one basketball at done University of Denver and you know he had a dream to be a bodybuilder and uh you know from him I sat and we had dinner at Cheesecake Factory that evening and you
know he wanted to compete he was financially strapped a little bit uh he was working as a trainer at B and next thing you know I said listen I can help you got him a contract by the next Monday and he was paid to be uh a bodybuilder through the weer organization and I remember calling Flex magazine a weekend after I met him and I said I found the next Mr Olympia did you actually say that yeah wow you thought he was that good then yeah to our winner tonight Phil Heath well there it is
at just 31 years old the Sandow trophy is on its way back to Denver Colorado uh surprisingly I'm I'm very happy actually because Phil Heath is my best friend just as Jay had been breathing down Ronnie Coleman's neck for years before finally presenting a physique the judges could not dispute as superior to the Champs in 2006 Phil has now provided the ending to the sequel Phil be J the same way Jay beat Ronnie through patience and hard work despite his stored career Jay was only mid-career in terms of age at 38 and in second place
he was hardly washed up but Phil in a bicep injury may have pushed Jay into early retirement I realized after 11 dude it was like this just isn't fun anymore no matter how much money you make and how much like you TR in the world and people are showing you respect it just wasn't fun if it's not fun it's not going to be as enticing for you to put full effort forward the biggest struggle for me was 2011 you know I was leading into uh that Olympia and I was informed by muscle tech list and
we're going to cut your contract in half you know because they wanted to make room for Phil Heath at the time I tore my bicep three weeks out my dog died four weeks out um that I had for 10 years and I was going to a divorce at the time you know and then I lose the the Olympia so then it's like okay your whole world comes apart after being sidelined in 2012 due to his injury Jay was determined to make another comeback in the 2013 Mr Olympia and the question was would he be able
to make history yet again you know eventually came back in 13 which is you know just to get back up there again it was never really a plan like I'm going to come win this title back it was more of like hey I just need to exit the way I want exit and not be forced out by an injury um and obviously you had Phil and he was you know no one was beating Phil Heath come on but I thought I could have a good showing like I thought okay I can be in the top
you know three four right five whatever to our sixth place finisher Jay Cutler I've been to 13 olympias and I have to say even at sixth place this is the best Olympia I've ever been in ever thank you a lot of us are sitting here wondering if we just saw Jay Cutler compete for the final time did we I can't say that right now but I knew that was it that was it I'm very satisfied with how my career went I wouldn't change one thing I wouldn't go back and say oh man if I would
have won in 2001 what my career done I'm very happy with all those second places it made me a stronger person the failures in life are sometimes more valuable than the victories I can promise you that I would not be as successful as a bodybuilder as a businessman as a friend if I didn't have failure in all those aspects people told me from day one you'll never make money in bodybuilding they said don't waste your time and I said I'm going to be the one to prove it wrong I was told I couldn't do this
I couldn't do that I was told I wouldn't be a good Pro I was told I'd never turn pro never win the Olympia never win it more than once after I lost it they said then to come back and win it again and I definitely if I wasn't chasing Ronnie Coleman I never would have pushed this hard I mean I I changed up a lot of my workouts and I used to watch his DVDs to try to get ideas on okay what can I do differently I want to be Mr Olympia that's what I want
to do I want to train all year give all I can all the dedication all the time all the ups and downs that make it all work with me when you sit there and you hold that Trophy and you hold gold medallions and uh you're declared Mr olymp the ambassador to sport of body there's nothing better than that for Jay celebration thank you thank you [Applause] [Music]
