hi welcome to a new episode of easy English this week we're interested to know which form of English is more commonly used today British English or American English so we found various objects that you can see here which have completely different vocabularies for the two forms of English and we went to Minster in Germany where British English is more commonly taught in school to see which of the two vocabularies they're more instinctively using nowadays if you're also interested to know whether you're using British or American English then why don't you play along and let us

British than American I think someone wants tell me that that that I have an New Zealand accent really or London accent but I'm not sure of either one so I don't know your first picture uh sneakers okay um sports shoes or sneakers uh sneakers would you say sneakers or trainers yeah uh I think trainers sneakers sneaker yeah sneaker and if you had to pick between sneaker or Trainer sneaker like uh sneakers trainers yeah which would you say sneaker probably okay and what is this uh it's a sofa or a couch but I do say both

okay but if you had to pick one if your life dependent on it a sofa a sofa okay couch it's a couch in German we say sofa oh really yes oh yeah and uh a sofa for three persons I would say yeah in British English is also a sofa in American is couch couch couch oh we also have here the word couch but for me it is a sofa ah really it depends on the region where you live really okay couch so far I know what would you say not quite sure I'm not sure okay

we take couch okay yeah we do couch yeah couch uh couch uh a truck truck or Lorry ah truck truck oh it's a truck and this there's a truck Lori M okay that's your first British one but most people say truck truck yeah truck or Lori no I would say it's a truck would you say truck or Lori oh truck Sur truck yeah uh zucchini I think the uh ah [Music] zucchini zukini I don't I know the German word it is zukini and uh I don't know how they tell it how they call it in

England or in America in America they also say zukini yes and in British English uh it is kette uh oh oh my God zucchini yeah this is hard though because American and German is the same yeah it is in we use the French one and England oh um but not K yeah yeah yeah you bazan yeah it is I don't know the world I think and German is the same word I think it's alsoini okay but in British English is um kette oh I never no I never heard it before go in American it's the

yeah in british's lift in british's lift yeah oh okay elevator elevator elevator yeah not lift no uh elevator not lift for me [Music] trousers pants uh blue jean trouser trousers yeah yeah yeah in American English is pants pants my pants trouses yeah British English jeans these pants or jeans trouses trous yeah P pants or trousers pants okay okay uh trouser trous jeans what pants not pants pants is for me like more the thing beneath yeah okay yeah yeah Bri English under pants yeah yeah and then um the thing inside or the bag what would you

say uh thing inside or the bag trash yeah um that's I would is it either uh rubbish or trash uh rubbish trash I give you a choice would you say trash or rubbish rubbish B rubbish rubbish B would be English yes and trash B maybe uh America yeah trash is American rubbish is British and then this one trash baged okay garbage trash uh trash bag yeah yeah I think I'd say rubbish if I talk like about the objects in there ah okay rather trash bag okay H interesting not trash in the trash bag no rubbish

in the trash bag I'd say rubbish spin but Fresh B I don't know why okay and these um no I you want to say biscuits but you I want to say biscuits but it's rather cookies cookies [Music] cookies wow you are 100% American here at the moment a biscuit cookies not biscuit not biscuit no not yeah crackers or cookies the sweet yeah sweet version yeah cookie cookie no biscuit no h biscuits nice yeah no cookie M cookie I think that's biscuit for me Cookie is like the American Cookie thing where you've got more fluffy much

butter inside and chocolate yeah yeah chocolate CH chunks and so on but this is more of a biscuit for me that's exactly what I would say yeah and then this box uh I I wouldn't even know what to call that I options post box yeah yeah yeah post box or mailbox oh all right yeah I think rather post box um post mailbox the option I would give you would be post box or mailbox mailbox also yes okay if I had to give you the option of post box or mailbox mailbox mailbox post or mail no

post mail or post oh but post and then if you lived in one of these you would say that you live in a uh I'm going to go with apartment yeah but well I don't know flat is like I don't know it's more it's it's sweeter I think an apartment if you were to live in one of these you would say I live in a apartment apartment building apartment complex flat or apartment uh as well as apartment I mean uh America flat maybe English yeah perfect exactly very good and if you lived in one of
