Guys, today in Summing Up Films, I'm going to explain about a horror comedy movie called The Babysitter, the film is based on a 12 year old boy who had an unconventional babysitter, by day is a great person and a trustworthy friend but by night has the habit of performing macabre rituals on his behalf. Be aware that from now on there will be spoilers! Cole is a 12-year-old "nerdy" boy.
In the school ward, he refuses to let the nurse give him a flu shot. Cole is very scared of needles, which makes the nurse have more work than usual. He is constantly bullied by his classmates as he is a nerd, so he suffers the famous bullying.
Melanie is one of the only people at school who treat him well. She hangs out with Cole at school, at recess, they have a good relationship. So on the way out of school Melanie's dad arrives to pick up his daughter from school, so Melanie asks her dad if she can give Cole a ride home, but the dad clearly has no desire to take the boy and squeals out.
in front of the school. Arriving on the street from his home Cole is approached by three children on bicycles to face Cole. Jeremy (one of the three kids) pushes Cole and him there on the floor, then Jeremy calls Cole a weirdo while the other kids are laughing and making fun of Cole's face.
When suddenly a beautiful girl (Bee, Cole's baba) appears and defends Cole from the 3 idiots. Bee tells Jeremy to stop bothering Cole and punctures Jeremy's bicycle tire. The 3 boys run away.
Bee then checks that Cole is okay and not injured. Bee drives Cole home in her convertible Jeep and asks how his parents are doing. He says Bee only goes out with him and treats him well because he pays for it.
A bit embarrassed Bee assures him that she has a lot of fun with Cole anyway, paid or not, it makes Cole a bit shy and embarrassed. When they arrive in front of the boy Bee's house remembers they will see each other again the next day at night because Cole's parents are going away. When he gets out of the car he sees Melanie in front of her house which is on the same street and they say goodbye to each other.
Cole then looks for his mother and finds her in the backyard fixing some traps for rats and other insects. Cole then tells his mother that he is bullied at school. The boy's mother consoles him saying that in his childhood he was also afraid of many things and that it is normal to be afraid of the world when you are young, and ends up saying that things will get better when he gets older.
In the next scene, Cole's father tries to teach his son to drive in an open space. Cole then admits that he's not ready to drive yet and that he's afraid to speed up the car. His dad even a little disappointed understands and takes control of the vehicle.
His father, when leaving the training site, accelerates the car and makes some maneuvers in the direction of trying to amuse Cole. The boy's mother and father are very relaxed and different from other parents. Later that day Cole walks into his parents' room to talk, but it seems the two are a little busy.
His father is watching Mad Men when his mother is working with paperwork. Cole then goes to his room and starts watching the series that his father had said was not suitable for the boy. Cole does this with the intention of having things to talk to his father about and appearing more “cool”.
Cole then spends the entire night marathoning Mad Men. The other day, on the bus on the way to school, Cole and his best friend talk and the boy says he feels his parents don't like him and they take it whenever they get a chance to avoid being with him, that would explain why parents travel so much without it. Melanie then disagrees saying that she thinks Bee takes the boys to his house whenever she goes to sleep and completes saying that this is what nannies do.
Cole then gets curious and says he'll stay awake the next time his nanny is there to test Melanie's theory. Later that day Cole's parents are packing up the last few things so that he can travel and they remind Cole of everything the boy can't do by proving to be parents ( too protective ). Bee then soon arrives to take care of the boy while the parents are away.
The two greet each other with a personalized touch just between the two of them. As soon as Cole's parents leave, he and Bee start a party just between themselves, dance with lights in the living room like it's in a nightclub, the next day they have a pool party, having fun all day, cooking together while talking about Star wars and spaceships. Cole feels good that he can hardly be himself around other people.
To end the day they decide to have a movie night where they play the characters from the movie with personalized speeches and staging. Exhausted from the hectic day, the two plonk on the sofa and have a brief conversation. Bee teases Cole for liking Melanie, but the embarrassed boy denies it.
At bedtime Cole says he's not tired yet so Bee makes him a proposal. One drink and he would sleep like a baby, the boy accepts and when he drinks the drink he panics and has the idea of asking Bee to prepare another drink to take with him. While Bee is making the second drink, Cole throws the drink on the living room floor plan, when Bee returns the boy pretends he's just had the drink.
Cole goes to his room and lies down on his bed pretending to be tired. Cole chats with his friend Melanie over a cell phone video call telling her that her plan to spy on Bee overnight was starting to work. Bee then enters the room to say goodnight and Cole thanks her for treating him like a normal person and not like a stranger, Bee comforts him saying that stranger is nice, the boy gets emotional and is happy and pretends to go to sleep.
Some time later the house bell rings. Melanie texts Cole encouraging him to go spy on what Bee is doing. Cole then silently gets out of bed and hides on the stairs to see who has arrived.
He sees Bee and five other friends (Max, Allison, John, Sonya and Samuel) playing "Truth or Dare". Among the group Samuel seems to be the “nerd” of the class. The bottle then stops in the direction of Max and Bee and Max challenges her to kiss everyone who is playing.
The first kiss was on Max, a quick, short kiss. The second kiss was on Allison and it took everyone by surprise with the super hot weather. Meanwhile, Cole is upstairs on the stairs just watching everything that's happening in the middle of his living room and seems to be enjoying himself .
John is the third to be kissed, or not, as Bee licks his face making everyone laugh. In Sonya's turn, Bee gives her a small kiss on the forehead. Samuel is the last.
He in turn is very nervous about the situation and clearly not ready for it, Cole who is watching everything identifies with Samuel and realizes that he would easily be that guy if he were in the place. Bee treats Samuel very well and makes him feel at ease and manages to kiss him. At the end of the kiss Bee pulls out two large knives and brutally ends Samuel with them.
Samuel then screams desperately in pain and fear. Bee then says that he is helping to fulfill a greater purpose. Upstairs Cole is in shock and for a moment transfixed by what he has just seen, he can't process the whole situation and is on the verge of a meltdown.
Bee removes the knives from Samuel's head as he gradually loses his life, they fill two goblets with their vital liquid. Cole overhears Bee say that "things get messy when you make a deal with the devil. " With their goblets full they place Samuel in a corner of the room.
The group then opens a mysterious box and takes a very old book from inside the box. Bee says that they should start as soon as possible and that now more blood is needed, only this time from the “innocents”. Hearing this, Cole immediately runs to his room realizing he would also be used for Bee's Satanic ritual.
Cole tries to call 911 to inform him that there is a dead boy in his office and that the attackers are still there. He then takes out his knife in an attempt to defend himself. However, he hears the group coming up the stairs and approaching his room and then pretends to be sleeping on the bed.
Cole overhears Bee and Sonya talking about using a syringe to draw his blood. The boy panics because as said before he is terrified of needles, but he doesn't see any alternative but to continue pretending he was asleep and stay put. When finished Bee makes him in bed and realizes that the window of the room was open, but still leaves and closes the door of the room.
As soon as the door is closed, Cole stands up and makes a rope out of sheets and clothes to try and jump out the window. Just as Cole is about to walk out the window, Bee appears behind him and realizes that Cole was wide awake and had probably seen everything that had happened. But at this point Cole passes out on the bedroom floor as his blood sugar was low due to the withdrawal of his blood.
Cole then wakes up tied to a chair in the middle of the room with everyone in front of him. Sonya gives the boy a biscuit on Bee's command. Bee's friends question the boy about what he's seen, the boy doesn't talk and drops the subject, Bee then tells him that he needed his blood just for a science project.
Then the boy is asked again, but this time about the window, why it is open and with sheets tied together simulating a rope. Desperate Cole invents that he wanted to get out of the house so he could smoke. Obviously the group doesn't believe it.
Meanwhile, Cole tries to cut the rope he was tied to with his knife. But unfortunately the boy is quickly discovered as there was a mirror behind him where everyone could see his reflection trying to use the knife. Bee seems convinced to release the boy, but before that, police cars arrive in front of the house and send the entire group into a panic.
Bee is enraged and asks if Cole had called the police. Cole then, with no alternatives, gives up on lying and starts yelling at the police to hear his call for help. Then Max immediately kicks the boy backwards and he crashes to the ground.
At this point, two police officers come through the door and order everyone in the group to stand still and put their hands up. Max throws a sharp object at one of the officers and hits him in the eye killing him almost instantly. The Policeman while falling to the ground ends up shooting Allison and she is miraculously thrown across the room.
As John begs the other cop not to shoot, Bee comes up behind the cop and coldly slashes his neck. The police radio rings and the police station asks about the distress call, checking if the situation was under control. Bee then forces Cole to say which police codes say the situation is fine, as Cole knows several police codes because he dreamed of being a police officer when he was older.
Cole then tells Bee the code 10-53, Bee thinks it's a trap because every time Cole lies he looks away, Bee extremely nervous gives the boy one last chance and he responds with a 10-4 which means he is. all ok. They breathe a sigh of relief and Max says the code over the radio leaving the police out of the rest.
Allison suffers from the gunshot wound, but the group refuses to call an ambulance as it is too complicated to explain why the girl was wounded by a bullet. As the group tries to support Alisson, Cole runs away and runs up the stairs, John is right behind the boy and when John goes to grab him, Cole gives him a shove that makes John lose his balance they step on a toy in the hallway and plummet from the second floor of the house falling on top of a glass trophy that was down there dying tragically. Now that one of them is dead, the group is completely enraged at Cole.
Bee orders Max to go after the boy, so Cole goes to his room and tries to jump over the window that had improvised a rope earlier. Max grabs the sheets and slowly pulls the boy back to the window, Cole realizing he's going to be caught loose and falls on the grass in the backyard. Cole runs around the house and goes to the garage where he finds Samuel's body.
The boy hides under the car and temporarily loses Max. In this short break, Cole searches the garage for supplies that can help him fend off Bee's crazy group of friends. In the search he finds some insecticides, a lighter and a fireworks.
Cole then runs to the underside of the house (a sort of basement) where his mother had placed several rat traps earlier. Sonya suspects the boy might be there and goes in to look for him, Cole hides under a blanket, but it's not long before Sonya finds him, and when she's on her way to the boy he lights the fireworks and points out. for her, but ends up getting it wrong.
Sonya gets her hands on the rat traps, slowing her down a bit, Cole then runs out of the attic and locks her from the outside with a screwdriver. Afterwards Cole uses the bug spray on Sonya's face and the fireworks explode with Sonya trapped inside. Max at that moment there was the explosion and goes after Cole through the garden of the house.
Max catches Cole and grabs him by the neck, almost losing all the air, they both notice a strange sound coming from the front of the house, it was the bully Jeremy throwing eggs at his house. Max then has a conversation with Cole and shows appreciation for his attempt to stay alive and his ingenuities giving Cole a chance to defend against Jeremy and stand up to him. Cole's attempt to defend himself totally thwarted by Jeremy, Jeremy punches Cole which lands on the ground.
Cole then quickly tries to explain what was going on at his house and asks for help, but Jeremy doesn't believe it and scoffs at his face. Max, who until then was chasing the boy and trying to kill him, helps Cole to his feet, standing up, Cole punches him in the face and runs away again. This time Max encourages him to run with a sadistic and psychotic tone.
Cole manages to climb the tree house at the back of the yard, but Max quickly catches him up there, Max then goes again to strangle Cole when the old tree house begins to crumble and Max falling out of the house ends up tangled up in the rope that was used to climb and ends up ironically dead with the rope wrapped around his neck. As Cole stares at his hanging body in shock, Bee fires a shot from the porch trying to hit Cole. He then flees down the street and ends up at his friend Melanie's house and quickly explains the whole terrifying situation that is happening that night.
Melanie says she's home alone and her father can't help. Bee does not take long to arrive and enter the house behind the boy. Cole and Melanie hide under the stairs and quietly make their way to the bathroom.
There, the boy apologizes for involving Melanie in everything and is sorry for everything that is happening. Cole asks her to call the police and stay hidden while he calls Bee's attention. The girl then kisses him and the two give a slight smile for a fraction of a second despite the situation in which they find themselves.
Cole returns to his house and sees everything tidy, clean and with no sign of a massacre. The boy is extremely confused, when he arrives in the kitchen he finds the giant book that Bee was using to perform the ritual and before he can do anything is attacked by Allison, the boy manages to hit her wound and wins some time, but Allison takes one. knife and goes towards Cole, before she stabs the boy, Bee comes into the woods with a shotgun she had taken from the police.
Cole then picks up the cursed book and threatens to burn it, Bee explains that the book is very important to her and that it wouldn't do him any harm if the boy gave her the book. Bee then tells that she did all this because she didn't have a perfect life and that she had many fears like Cole and so I deal with the devil to be able to be someone in life. Bee ends by saying that it's not easy to do what she does, she needs to move from town all the time and hunt new people to continue her ritual.
Bee then makes a proposal to Cole to join his cult and that he would invent a fancy story for the two to get out of this chaos unscathed. Cole refuses and burns the book. And in a last act of courage he runs back to Melanie's house, takes his father's car and drives like a madman to his house and launches the car towards the window where Bee was trying to put out the burning book.
Cole then gets out of the wrecked car. They have one last very emotional parting moment to reminisce about their friendship, but Cole says Bee made the wrong choice doing all of that. Bee agrees with the boy and looks remorseful, Bee then tries to give the two a secret handshake , but Cole doesn't respond.
The cops Melanie had called finally arrive at the house for rescue. His parents arrive shortly thereafter without understanding anything of what was happening, very worried about their son until then, (defenceless). After hugging them, Cole says he doesn't need a babysitter anymore.
In the post-credit scene Bee appears alive and attacks a firefighter inside the house. If you found yourself in this boy's place, would you accept the pact with the nanny? Or do the same thing as Cole.
